Vasovasostomy

What is a Vasovasostomy?

Vasovasostomy is a microsurgical procedure that repairs the functionality of the vas deferens tubes. The surgery connects the tubes back to together to restore the flow of sperm. This literally means a “vas to vas connection”. A vasovasostomy surgery opens the separated ends of each vas deferens, so that the sperm can travel with the semen during ejaculation.

During a vasectomy, the vas deferens that carry sperm from the testicles to the seminal vesicles, are cut, tied, and may be cauterized. While a vasectomy is considered to be a permanent solution for male sterilization, the procedure can be reversed- and highly successful with a fellowship trained microsurgeon who specializes in vasectomy reversals.

A vasovasostomy procedure is used when the surgeon is confident that the epididymis (where sperm is stored), is not blocked or damaged from the prior vasectomy surgery. If the surgeon feels that fixing the vas to vas is not enough to restore the flow of sperm, a more complicated surgery will need to be performed called vasoepididymostomy.

Dr. William Conners is a world renowned reverse vasectomy specialist who performs both vasovasostomy and vasoepididymostomy procedures. He serves patients not only in New England, but has had many patients from New York, Florida, Texas, and around the world!
